Revising my time in this class
In this course I feel like I have met most of the CLO’s. Although my start wasn’t very strong as I had many things going on at the time mentally and schoolwise, Mid-way through the professor had a chat with me that helped me get back on track and lead me to where I am now in this course. I will go over each CLO and how I haven’t or have met them.
The first Course learning Outcomes is “Recognize the role of language attitudes and standards in empowering, oppressing, and hierarchizing languages and their users, and be open to communicating across different languages and cultures.”. I have met this CLO although I dont think there’s been much chance to show it in this class. The role of language attitudes has been present in my writing throughout other essays and if needed be would’ve been able to communicate across language barriers with others.
The second Course Learning Outcome is “Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations.”. This CLO I feel like I have strongly met as in both my research paper and my personal narrative are both different genres. Also including my free writes/ responses to homework are all exploring and analyzing rhetorical situations and exploring a variety of genres.
The third Course learning outcome is “Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.”. This is another one that I feel I have strongly met as I’ve done it on almost everything written for this class including the one you’re reading. In all my writing I draft, revise and edit multiple times till it comes out looking exactly how I’d like it to. And for collaborating during class I collaborated with many of my peers about 12 of them throughout all of our peer review sessions and every time came out with something new to change and also gave feedback to them as well. As for developing strategies for them using draft like a pirate, edit like a ninja has helped me simplify down the way I do things into a cut and fine process that supports me through writer’s block.
The fourth Course learning outcome is “ Recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations.”. This is one I think I have met but not as strongly as I could’ve. For strategies when engaged in writing situations I have met clearly with what was taught in our class as I think I’ll continue using it for years to come. But for recognizing and practicing rhetorical terms I’ve slightly met that part and I should continue to try to improve that as well as I can especially with practicing rhetorical terms.
The fifth Course learning outcome is “Engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes.”. This one’s another one I strongly met as I didn’t miss an opportunity to give peer review feedback or receive it. I actually very much enjoyed peer review as it helped me understand what the reader thought of the way my writing was and how it could be improved to better suit them. Helped me out of writer’s block plenty of times especially in my research paper. I also enjoyed reading others papers as it gave me an insight into how others are doing theirs and how they could also improve it and help them out.
The sixth Course learning outcome is “Understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences”. As this one confuses me I’m not sure if I’ve met it. If it includes how we made advertisements and road maps then I feel like I have met this CLO and decently well too. But other than that I haven’t a clue what this could mean so for now I’ll just say I have with the example I’ve brought up.
The seventh Course learning outcome is “Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias.”. I have strongly met this CLO as I’ve gone through many sources and articles to get what I needed for my research paper . For my research paper I have about 20 sources and have easily gone through three times that amount just to try to find credible and good sources for what I needed to show in my paper. This one is also another one I very much enjoyed doing as it was just looking into my topic and learning more about it which was mostly interesting and fun to do.
The eighth Course learning outcome is “Compose texts that integrate your stance with appropriate sources using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation.”. I have also strongly met this CLO as this was incorporated in many of my writing during this class. I had to do this many times throughout my research paper which helped improve the CLO but also helped me meet it as I had to interpret the quotes from my sources, analyze them and give a summary about them that connected back with my research paper and my stance on them. Also summarizing was another thing that helped me through my papers as it was an easy way to put it all together instead of trying to re-explain everything at once but instead as one simple thing.
The ninth and last Course learning outcome is “Practice systematic application of citation conventions”. This one is another CLO that I’ve strongly met and it’s shown in my citing on my research paper. Writing my research paper definitely did help me learn how to cite better and in a way that makes it super easy and that I’ll use until I stop writing all together. All of my sources were properly cited with author’s names and publication.
Going through each individual CLOs shows me that I met a majority of them and the only one not met was one I couldn’t understand the meaning of. So I think in this course I met most if not all of the Course learning outcomes. In conclusion, throughout all my work in this class from free writes to research paper to even this I’ve shown how I recognized the role of language attitudes, Explored and analyzed (in writing and reading) a variety of genres and rhetorical situations, Developed strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing, Recognized and practiced key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations, Engaged in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes, Locate research sources, Compose texts that integrate your stance with appropriate sources using strategies, Practice systematic application of citation conventions. These all are very clearly shown in my work and through my time in this class, Although I feel like I still need to grow more into a couple CLOs like practicing rhetorical terms or exploring a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. I am confident with my writing and with the CLOs that I’ve felt like I met strongly and well.
